Our Bellefonte Branch is currently accepting applications for part-time Child Care Staff to fill shifts in the Summer Camp Program Monday - Friday. Staff will be responsible for the safety and well-being of the children enrolled in our programs as well as providing an environment rich in activities and experiences to promote the development of each child.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of PA Department of Public Welfare (DPW) regulations.
- Supervise all children and be physically present with the group of children in your care.
- When engaging children in activities, consider the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, special talents, individual style, and pace of learning.
- Assist with the development and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and camp programming.
- Interact and participate in games, activities, and special programs (including outdoor activities/swimming) with children in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
- Assist in daily communication with parents.
- Utilize positive disciplinary methods including, but not limited to, redirection, positive reinforcement, proactive guidance, and if needed, appropriate time outs.
- Assist with the completion of any necessary administrative paperwork (i.e. meal counts, attendance, incident reports, supply requests, etc.)
Qualifications (should meet ONE of these criteria)
- High school diploma and 30 credits in an education or human services field.
- High school diploma and 600 or more hours of secondary training.
- High school diploma, 15 credit hours in an education or human service field, and 1 year of experience working with children.
- High school diploma and 2 years of experience working with children.

YMCA of Centre County’s Moshannon Valley Branch is accepting applications for Youth Program Staff to be responsible for the operation of designated youth activities and programs through established objectives and other association-wide policies. Staff are needed to fill shifts on Saturdays.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create a warm and positive environment while encouraging participants to meet course objectives.
- Take actions necessary to prevent injury to participants and self.
- Support, follow, and enforce all facility rules and regulations. Teach age-appropriate rules in a positive manner to class participants.
- Encourage proper conduct of participants and parents; report problems or concerns to the Branch Director.
- Keep program areas neat – after class, put equipment into the proper storage areas and pick up any trash left behind.
- Communicate children’s progress with their parents and be available to discuss their child’s abilities.
- Take attendance using the class roster – those not on the roster must register at the front desk.
- Ensure proper use of program equipment.
Qualifications
- Genuine willingness to work with youth.
- Education or experience in related field based on the sport, activity, or program being offered.
- Ability to cooperate and work with YMCA staff to provide a quality program.

The Bellefonte YMCA is currently accepting applications for a full-time Lifeguard to be responsible for upholding safety rules, YMCA policies, accident prevention, and emergency response at our indoor pools. Staff are needed to fill shifts Monday - Friday from 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM and occasional Saturdays.
Primary Responsibilities
- Remain physically and mentally alert, taking a proactive approach to searching for distressed swimmers and hazards.
- Successfully communicate with youth and adults to enforce pool rules and schedules.
- Remain calm, respond effectively, and give clear directions in an emergency situation.
- Maintain safety of pool environment by removing hazards that could lead to injury in or around the pool deck and halting any dangerous behavior displayed by patrons.
- Responsible for helping clean the pool facility, including vacuuming the pool and other duties as assigned.
- Remain physically capable of completing the prerequisite swim test as specified by the American Red Cross to ensure ability to respond in an emergency situation.
Qualifications
- At a minimum, high school level education is required.
- Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain a certification.
- Customer service experience.

The Bellefonte YMCA is currently accepting applications for part-time Member Service Representatives who will be responsible for ensuring that all interactions with Y members, potential members, and guests are conducted in a warm, friendly, and efficient manner. Staff are needed to fill opening shifts throughout the week.
Primary Responsibilities
- Remain attentive and aware to greet everyone that enters the facility.
- Preserve the security and maintain the cleanliness of the front desk/reception area.
- Process memberships, guest passes, and other program sales utilizing the DAXKO Operations system.
- Keep proper reconciliation and close-out of shift transactions, including balancing the cash drawer at the desk area.
- Answer the telephone in a polite and courteous manner.
- Provide tours and information about Y facilities and programming to prospective members.
- Study and be aware of all written materials published by the Y, including the Member Handbook, brochures, flyers, etc. and be prepared to communicate information to the general public.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Proficient computer skills including, but not limited to, Excel, Word, and web-based operating systems.

The Bellefonte YMCA is currently accepting applications for part-time Swim Lesson Instructors to be responsible for teaching swim lessons (specifically summer swim camps) utilizing the Y USA Swim Lesson Program and YMCA of Centre County approved lesson plans. Staff are needed to fill private lesson requests and group lesson shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create a warm and positive environment while encouraging swimmers to meet course objective. Maintain a positive rapport with parents and other patrons.
- Follow lesson plans and create drills and activities within swim lesson program guidelines.
- Support, follow, and enforce all facility rules and regulations with extra emphasis on safety. Teach age-appropriate rules in a positive manner to lesson participants. Report problems or concerns to the Program Director.
- Take attendance using the class roster. Those not on the roster must register at the front desk.
- Private Swim Instructors should verify payment for private lessons by viewing a receipt from the client prior to teaching the lesson. Once the lesson is complete, instructors should log it and keep track of those paid at the front desk. Under no circumstances should an instructor directly accept money from a client for the services given.
- Complete skills sheets after each class and store in YMCA binder.
- Communicate with parents about their child’s progress.
- Assist with keeping the pool area clean and complete other duties within the pool area as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 16 years of age.
- Prior experience teaching swim lessons preferred.
- Prior swimming experience necessary.
