Our Bellefonte Branch is currently accepting applications for part-time School Age Childcare Staff to fill various shifts throughout the week. Staff will be responsible for the safety and well-being of the children enrolled in our programs as well as providing an environment rich in activities and experiences to promote the development of each child.
Primary Responsibilities
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of PA Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations.
- Supervise all children and be physically present with the group of children in your care.
- When engaging children in activities, consider the needs of individual children with concern for their interests, special talents, individual style, and pace of learning.
- Assist with the development and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Interact and participate in games, activities, and special programs with children in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
- Assist in daily communication with parents.
- Utilize positive disciplinary methods including, but not limited to, redirection, positive reinforcement, proactive guidance, and if needed, appropriate time outs.
- Assist with the completion of any necessary administrative paperwork (i.e. meal counts, attendance, incident reports, supply requests, etc.)
Qualifications (should meet ONE of these criteria)
- High school diploma and 30 credits in an education or human services field.
- High school diploma and 600 or more hours of secondary training.
- High school diploma, 15 credit hours in an education or human service field, and 1 year of experience working with children.
- High school diploma and 2 years of experience working with children.

Our Bellefonte Branch is currently accepting applications for a full-time, exempt Early Care and Education Director to be responsible for the supervision and direction of Early Care and Education Programs in accordance with the mission, vision, and philosophy of the YMCA of Centre County.
Primary Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of PA Department of Public Welfare (DPW) regulations.
- Ensure all child care staff have been properly trained in DPW regulations, PA Keystone Stars standards, the Environmental Rating Scale, and YMCA new staff orientations.
- Assure the supervision of ALL children, which is defined by DPW as: to be physically present with a group of children. Critical oversights, in which the staff can see, hear, direct, and access the children.
- Develop and manage a program that is geared toward the individual children enrolled with concern for their interests, special talents, and individual style/pace of learning. Treat all children enrolled in programs with dignity and respect.
- Complete child assessments/portfolios and schedule parent/teacher conferences at appropriate times throughout the year.
- Recruit and hire staff as needed and evaluate annually.
- Complete payroll for department staff.
- Develop, manage, and monitor department budget to meet or exceed budget targets.
- Assure completion of all administrative paperwork including, but not limited to, attendance, meal counts, incident reports, supply and equipment requests, parent newsletters, and curriculum.
- Ensure information on families, children, parents, and co-workers remains confidential.
- Work with staff and volunteers to assist with the YMCA’s annual campaign to reach branch goals.
- Report all incidents to direct supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (must meet BOTH of these criteria)
- Bachelor’s Degree in education or a human services field.
- 5 years of experience managing a child care facility.

The Bellefonte YMCA is currently accepting applications for part-time AM Lifeguards to be responsible for upholding safety rules, YMCA policies, accident prevention, and emergency response at our indoor pools. Staff are needed to fill evening shifts from 4 PM - 7:30 PM.
Primary Responsibilities
- Remain physically and mentally alert, taking a proactive approach to searching for distressed swimmers and hazards.
- Successfully communicate with youth and adults to enforce pool rules and schedules.
- Remain calm, respond effectively, and give clear directions in an emergency situation.
- Maintain safety of pool environment by removing hazards that could lead to injury in or around the pool deck and halting any dangerous behavior displayed by patrons.
- Responsible for helping clean the pool facility, including vacuuming the pool and other duties as assigned.
- Remain physically capable of completing the prerequisite swim test as specified by the American Red Cross to ensure ability to respond in an emergency situation.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 15 years of age or older.
- At a minimum, some high school level education is required.
- Current lifeguard certification or ability to obtain a certification.

The Bellefonte YMCA is currently accepting applications for part-time Swim Lesson Instructors to be responsible for teaching swim lessons (specifically summer swim camps) utilizing the Y USA Swim Lesson Program and YMCA of Centre County approved lesson plans. Staff are needed to fill shifts on Saturdays from 9 AM - 12:30 PM.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create a warm and positive environment while encouraging swimmers to meet course objective. Maintain a positive rapport with parents and other patrons.
- Follow lesson plans and create drills and activities within swim lesson program guidelines.
- Support, follow, and enforce all facility rules and regulations with extra emphasis on safety. Teach age-appropriate rules in a positive manner to lesson participants. Report problems or concerns to the Program Director.
- Take attendance using the class roster. Those not on the roster must register at the front desk.
- Private Swim Instructors should verify payment for private lessons by viewing a receipt from the client prior to teaching the lesson. Once the lesson is complete, instructors should log it and keep track of those paid at the front desk. Under no circumstances should an instructor directly accept money from a client for the services given.
- Complete skills sheets after each class and store in YMCA binder.
- Communicate with parents about their child’s progress.
- Assist with keeping the pool area clean and complete other duties within the pool area as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 16 years of age.
- Prior experience teaching swim lessons preferred.
- Prior swimming experience necessary.
